| In the spring of 1999, Breathlanes was
invited to contribute a piece for an upcoming tribute album, featuring music of the
British folk/rock group Wishbone Ash (the invitation was of particular interest to John,
who as a 14-year old beginning guitarist, was often known to carry Andy Powell's photo
in his wallet for quick display of guitar divinity). Known in the U.S. mainly for their
early seventies albums and appearances, the group has been recording and touring for
over thirty years, more recently in Europe. Breathlanes recorded a version
of "Leaf and Stream" (from the 1972 album "Argus") at Tom Lewis' studio, with Elissa Hadley
on vocals and Dave Domizi
on bass, for possible inclusion on the compilation CD. John travelled to
Chicago in May, 2000, to attend two Wishbone Ash performances, and met the band along with
overseers of the recording project. The band and producers liked the Breathlanes
version very much, and have included it on their disc, entitled "Y2WA."
It is only available through the band's website: www.wishboneash.com. |
