The first Breathlanes show of 2009 took place Janurary 23 at Little Kings Shuffle Club. (John, Jamie, Darrin, and Dave Spivey). The same lineup appeared again at Little Kings on April 18th. Breathlanes appeared as part of Athfest at the Globe on Friday, June 26th at 8:00pm. This show marked a special occassion, as Breathlanes had not played the Globe in almost ten years, and that venue was its home stage for such a long run in the 1990's. Breathlanes returned to the Globe on August 22nd, and on October 10th with special guest Lefty Hathaway on keys.

In other related news from 2009; Jamie and Darrin continue to perform with a number of ensembles, including Athens A-Train, avant guarde guitarist Killick, and a trio with saxophonist Mike Jones.

Dave Spivey performs with Olympis Mans, The Donner Party, The G. W. Bush cover band, and Cosmic Charlie, among others.

In 2009, John played several collaborative shows in Athens. They included duos with guitarist/composer Caroline Aiken, and performances in the ensembles of Austin, TX singer songwriter Bob Livingston, and that of NY singer songwriter David Allen Hammond.

In August, John performed with saxophonist Bill Oglesby at Athens' Cine Theater around the opening of two locally produced short films.
